New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style (Part 3: Shop, shop, shop!)

Welcome critters, to my third installment of a "New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style."

Did you miss the others in my "New Year's Makeover" series?

Ready to move on? Check out the rest  Coming Soon!

______________________________________________________________________

Cleaning out your closet in part one may have left you with less clothes than what you'd like to have. And now that you've completed part two and know what kind of items are going to work best for your body and your desired style we can begin to SHOP! This is the part we've all wanted to do the whole time anyways, am I right?

Thankfully, we have taken the time as part of step two in order to decide what we need using a shopping list. Rushing out to the stores blindly can not only create chaos and an overwhelming feeling, but you're going to want to buy anything and everything even if it doesn't fit properly into your wardrobe.

[Step 1- Prioritize your list]
     > Go over it one more time. As part of step 2 we already took the time to make a list based on what your chosen style is, what you already have, and the basics that you still need; but, going over that same list again a couple of days later will ensure that these are still the items you need and desire.
     > Put the important stuff at the top. When you prioritize your shopping list you need to think about which items will have to most impact in your closet right now. We all may have those desired items that we love but don't really need, so put those on the back burner for now and focus on the articles of clothing that will just MAKE your closet complete. Prioritizing you shopping list can really help alleviate any stress you have. Plus, if you're on a budget you can visually see the first things you need to purchase and then work your way down as money allows.

       Online vs. In Store
Personally, I love to shop in the store. If you have a weird body type like me then online shopping is often times just too unpredictable.
However, some of the best deals can be scored online. If you know what size you are and can have faith in the company that you are purchasing from, then I would say go for it!
Whatever works best for your lifestyle it ideal because shopping is shopping, right?

[Step 2- Buying the clothes]
After you've arrived at the store (or in the case of online shopping, the clothes have arrived at your house), we need to make the decision on whether or not to buy the clothes (or return them).
    > Analyze the fit, the feel, and the look. Moving around can give you the opportunity to think about how this item is fitting and feeling on you. The dressing rooms are just meant for you to change and stare at yourself, but take a step out of them and walk up and down the fitting room hall. In pants or a shirt, giving yourself the opportunity to move around gives you a different feeling of the item. Also, make sure that the item looks good when you're doing these things... looks is what it's about anyways!
     > If you use the 'but' word, it's not worth it. "I like this shirt, but..." I want it longer, I wish it was blue, I need long sleeves. These are all kinds of problems we encounter yet time and time again I find myself still buying the clothes. I made a rule for myself that anything with a 'but' wasn't worth it, and it truly helped me decided what was really necessary and what wasn't. I'd suggest you do the same!
     > Is this practical? This should be an easy question to answer that can weed out a lot of unnecessary items. As in part one, decided what is truly going to work in your life.

Don't get frustrated if the first time you go shopping you don't find everything you wanted. It may take a couple of small shopping trips for you to decide what is working for you.

Want to see what I picked up on my shopping trips? Check out the video below to cheek out my haul.

New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style (Part 2: Creating your style)

Welcome critters, to my second installment of a "New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style."

Check out Part 1: Going through your closet of my "New Year's Makeover" series!

Ready to move on? Check out the rest  Coming Soon!

Now that you've all cleaned out your closets in part one it's time to think of new and fabulous things to fill it up with. It's really important that you keep your closet filled with things you love, things that reflect who you are, and things you can wear all of the time.

Sadly, before we even begin the fun step of shopping, we have one more thing to do... and today we are going to talk about Part 2: Creating your Style. This step is super important because you need to make sure you won't be using the 'I don't have anything good to wear' excuse again.

Creating your style isn't only about finding your style "niche" (edgy, preppy, boho, etc.), but also about finding out what clothes work for you. Everyone has a different body shape, and therefore, everyone has different types of clothes that look good on them. While we will be discussing style types, its also important to keep in mind your body type, too. We will be determining what clothing shapes, styles, and designs work best for your life, your attitude, and your body.

[Step 1- Assess what you have]
     > What are your go-to's? If you've implementing the Hanger Method, you should already know what you have and have not worn. Decipher what you have been reaching for most often, and why those are your favorite items.
    > Analyze your current style. Seeing what you already have may help give you an idea of the style you are going for, or maybe it'll make you realize you want to switch it up a bit. One of the best things to do is look at old pictures of yourself. Did you like what you were wearing? Why or why not? It's important to see what items look flattering on you, and what items you know you already love.

[Step 2- Look for inspiration]
    > Use pinterest! This site is the best for finding super cute outfits. Just type in fashion, style, or even edgy (if that's what you're looking for), and you're set to begin making a very impressive style board with tons of inspiration. Even if you aren't in love with the ENTIRE outfit feel free to pin it instead and make note of the things you love and the things you want to stay away from.

[Step 3- Make your shopping list]
    > What do they have in common? Check out your "go-to's" and compare it to your inspiration outfits. Decide what they have that is the same, and what they have that makes you like them so much. Is there be a trend (like combat boots or flowy tanks), or a color/pattern (like floral or cobalt blue) that you keep pinning or wearing over and over again? Figure out if you need more of those items, and add that to your shopping list.
    > What's on your inspiration board and not in your closet? Personally, my board is full of edgy items like chunky boots, black graphic tees, and over sized tops, but I have hardly any of that in my closet. I know that these are the things that I am drawn to, the things that fit my personality, and the things that look best on my body. You need to decide what you have on your board that needs to be in you closet and will be worn all the time.
    > Are there simple basics that you need more of? My friend Kristin has this awesome blog where she posts all about fashion and beauty. Not too long ago she did a style essentials series where she helps you build your closet with basic things that everyone needs. Check out her blog here, or even read one of my favorites of her essentials posts where she talks about your everyday basic tees!

Figuring out what you have, finding what you want, and listing what you need can be one of the most daunting tasks, but remember--after this we will be going SHOPPING! Without a list in hand and preconceived ideas of what you are looking for, each store can be overwhelming. You don't want to wind up spending and buying more that you need, so that's why this step is so important.

You're done with step two! Do you feel accomplished and satisfied with the work you just did? Comment below to tell me about your new style... what trend are you obsessed with, and what things look most flattering on you?

Day 24-- Your favorite movie and what it's about [January 30 Day Challenge]

Finally, a Frozen review!!!!!!

Source

Today I have been told to write about (even though I've been wanting to for a long time) My favorite movie and what it's about.

Movie: Frozen (directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee)

Summary:

"A prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction." -imdb

Our Ratings (from 1-5, five being highest which means best)

Film Quality: SkyCzar= 5 Danyzell= 5

They did such a great job on expressions. The animations were flawless.

Sound Track: 4 5

If I compared with all of the Disney greats it ranks up there with the top... But, it's not the best.

Uhhhh, I don't know why Sky was such a hater, but I absolutely loved the music. I know own songs from this movie on my iPhone--it was that good.

Story Line/Plot: 4 4

It was interesting but, it was a very short story with less adventure than what I had expected.

I agree. The story was a good one, but I was expecting more.

Casting: 4 4

The voices matched the characters. The singing was great. That's all we can ask for.

Intended Purpose: 4 5

It was intended to make you happy, make you laugh, and make you cry. The emotions were right on par, and I think the directors did what they had planned on doing.

Other Comments:

I really hope they make more movies like this.

I loved the singing and comedy! I can't wait for more movies.

Day 22-- How have you changed in the past 2 years [January 30 Day Challenge]

Hey critters!

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was accepting the challenge to post every day; however, not every post will appear on my blog. To see them all you can check out my tumblr account.

Today I have been told to talk about How I have changed in the past two years.

So, yes--I have changed in appearance. Maybe my hair is a bit different, my complexion changed, and a couple more piercings added; but, I don't think that's really what this post is about.

I think most of my devoted followers have heard this enough... however, I am going to say it again, I have changed drastically in the last two years--in the past year--okay, in the past couple months! I am continually changing and trying new things. I am becoming more and more of who I want to be.

Two years ago, I was a senior in high school halfway through my second trimester (yes, my hs had trimesters...). I was young, having fun, and beginning to adventure out on my own a bit. My SAT scores were in, I had applied to IU, and I was excited for the new life I knew I would begin.

Since then, I have really grown up. I know how to cook some decent meals for myself (although, I know Sky would complain that I still don't cook enough), I can budget my own money--or at least I try to, I can manage tasks and control my stress, and so much more that I wouldn't have been able to do on my own two years ago. I have really learned a lot!

I think that the best part of me that has changed in the past two years is my confidence. My friends and close family wouldn't have necessarily called me shy, and sometimes I wouldn't have called myself shy either. However, I wasn't ME. I wasn't the person I am now. Two years ago I was trying to fit in to a small town, make everyone happy, and mingle who I wanted to be with the person everyone else was trying to make me. I was shy because I wasn't confident in the who I was. I was shy because I was trying too hard make everyone happy. The me two years ago was not a bad me, but she just wasn't Danyzell.

Here, at Indiana University, away from the judgmental stares and accusations that can come from living in a small town, I have truly been able to express myself and be who I want to be. Being out on my own allowed me to grow up, and growing up gave me the opportunity to live how I wanted to. I did the things that I enjoyed, I studied the things that sparked my interest, and I didn't strive to make everyone happy--just myself and the people I love.

In the past two years I have learned a lot, I have changed a lot, I have become a completely different person. In the past two years I have cared less about what people think, cared more about the people who matter, and smiled more than I ever have before!

People make great changes all the time. No one can tell you who you ought to be! So, if you aren't happy with something then make the change and take control.

How have you changed?

Day 20-- How important you think education is [January 30 Day Challenge]

Hey critters!

Today I have been told to talk about How important I think education is.
Education is very important, okay, end of story.

I think that education is important in today's society because, in the end, it teaches you a job force and allows you to advance in the world.

I believe that education is very important... education of basic facts and skills that a person learns in the earlier years of schooling set a great foundation for future learning. College is VERY important! When entering college you begin focusing your learning on things that you are interested in and begin traveling down that path to reach a degree in the area in which you plan on working for the rest of your life. That being said, without those basic facts and skills that you learned in the beginning elementary level, you would not be able to advance and build your knowledge at the college level.

Education is important-- the beginning skills you learn can build into a great stepping stone for future learning. Then, specialization and career focused learning that you achieve in college makes you truly marketable in the job force.

Day 14-- Your earliest memory [January 30 Day Challenge]

Hey critters!

In a previous post, I mentioned that I was accepting the challenge to post every day; however, not every post will appear on my blog. To see them all you can check out my tumblr account.

Today I have been told to talk about My earliest memory.

Hmmm this is actually a hard one. A lot of what I think is a memory is actually just a story that someone told me about myself that I have turned into a memory (ya get what I’m sayin?).
Maybe I should get myself tested because I believe that I probably have to worst memory in the world. I don’t even remember what I at for lunch yesterday!

My memories of my childhood come in little spurts.I remember playing with barbies in a playroom full of white shelves when I lived out in a trailer in the woods. I remember watching two of the boys at my mom’s daycare play their Pokemon games on the first GameBoys. I remember watching one little boy cry and cry as his mom dropped him off because he had never been to a daycare before. I remember sitting down at our kitchen table with some other kids my age as my mom taught us preschool type things out of a workbook.

I can’t pin point my very first memory, and sometimes it’s hard for me to decipher what is real and what is an elaborate story that I made up while I was a little kid.

Thinking of my earliest memory is a hard thing!

Good evening critters!

Not much explaining here... Just me and my sisters acting like nuts doing the sister tag.

I can't really explain our relationship, and that's why I wanted you all to see it or yourselves. We are silly, crazy, mean, and fun all at the same time. We fight but we love each other--I wouldn't have it any other way!

New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style (Part 1: Going through your closet)

Welcome critters, to my first installment of a "New Year's Makeover | Danyzell Style."

With a new year comes new beginnings, a fresh start, and a chance to get out with the old and jump in to the new. I love the idea of reflecting on the past and making positive changes for my future. This year I am determined to emphasize the new me! And the first step in that long journey is a revamped, refreshed, and rejuvenated makeover.

For the next couple of weeks, I am going to be walking with you as we go through our closets, clean and organize our style, shop until we drop, and flaunt our personality with clothes.

Ready to move on? Check out the rest

Coming Soon!

______________________________________________________________________

Now, before we even begin to think about the new things we want to buy, we need to decide what we have that works and what must go. Today we are discussing Part 1: Going through our closet so we can start fresh and get the organization in motion!

[Step 1- Clean up]
Pick up your space. Within the next couple of steps we are going to completely tear apart the closet. Could you imagine trying to get everything straight and organized in an already disastrous room? Just start the organization process now and do a quick pick up.
     > Put yourself together. Do your hair, make-up, and throw on some glam (yet neutral) clothes. Simple straight hair and an everyday eye look with black leggings and a white tee is what I went for. The clothes you try on will look better when you feel better about the way the person looks inside them. And don't forget to keep it neutral because you don't want your other pieces overpowering the items you are trying to eliminate.

[Step 2- Make piles]
     > Try it all on. My suggestion is go through one type of item at a time. Put on all your shirts, then your pants, and so on. This makes sure you get rid of any duplicates, and helps keep me focused on the task at hand,
     > Categorize your clothes. Start by making piles as you try anything on. One pile called 'Donate,' another for some of your 'Maybes,' and a pile for the 'Keeps.' Make sure that all clothes that do not fit or are ruined go straight into the donation/go pile--I don't care how much you used to love it!

[Step 3- Reevaluate your piles]
     > Are you getting rid of too much? Do you have lots in your keep pile? This can be one of the hardest parts, but make sure you are being reasonable with yourself. Go through those piles one more time, decide where the maybes need to go, and finish up this first brutal task.
     > What if you still can't decide on those 'Maybe' items? Sometimes it's just too much to make a decision in one day, so make sure you hang those leftover maybes in a separate spot in your closet using my hanger method. Then come back in two weeks and look over those items again.
Questions to help you along the way
          1) Does it fit me? I know we all have those couple of items that we use for inspiration towards our new year's weight loss goals. But we can't keep all of those old clothes. Pick a couple, and 2 sizes must be the limit critters!
          2) Would I re-buy it? You need to decide if this is really something you love. It helps to imagine if it was in the store, would you buy it again?
          3) Is it practical? I may love a certain item, but if I never have a reason to wear that completely sequenced gold dress then I shouldn't keep it--it's that simple.

[Step 4- Put it all away]
     > Keep it organized. Honestly, it doesn’t matter how you decide to put your clothes away in your closet and drawers, just make sure you have some method. A closet that just gets it’s clothes thrown into it is never going to be clean and organized—so, have a method.

Now don't fret about it too much; if you can't accomplish this step in one day then take a break. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed in our projects that we loose focus of the final goal. Take some time to figure out what you really want and tackle the piles another day if that's what you need.
Also, feel free to check out my video below to watch my struggle as I clean out my closet and organize the clothes.

You're done with step one! Do you feel accomplished and satisfied with the work you just did? Comment below to tell me about or show us all of your hard work... what's in your keep pile and what did you decide to donate?

Day 2-- Where I'd like to be in 10 years [January 30 Day Challenge]

Hey critters!

______________________________________________________________________

Today I have been instructed to post about Where I'd like to be in 10 years.

In 10 years I will be 29 years old, almost 30. As much as I look forward to my future, I am not the type of person to follow a strict plan. I like to roll with the punches and live life the way that it falls.

>>As for family: At this time in my life I would hope that I have been married for 4 or 5 years (at least) and have one or two kids.

>>My Career: Currently I am studying informatics. This major has so many options in our new age of growing technology; therefore, I really could be anywhere. In 10 years, I'd love to be a full time blogger--but, I know that that's not exactly possible. No matter what, I am going to be keeping up with this blog, changing it, and making it grow. Other dream jobs of mine include working for Apple, working for a design company, or creating blogs and websites on my own. Also, with my degree in technology combined with my experience in public speaking and organization I would love to be some corporate leader's personal assistant. The more I think about being a personal assistant, the more it appeals to me.

>>Location: I am open to living nearly anywhere, but lately Sky and I have been discussing/most me just telling him that I want to be living in California. But seriously, I am open to anything. I am happy with the idea of staying around where our families are; however, I am not sure I can thrive the way that I wish to in such a small town.

As of today, those are my hopes and dreams. The more I learn, the more I grow, and the more my life changes I alter these dreams. I would say I am a pretty free flowing person. I like to stay organized from day to day--but, those long time dreams shouldn't be stressed over. I am living my life in the now.

What are your plans? Can you relate to my 10 year plan?
